Mama Maria

My mission as a Postpartum Doula is to provide support for parents of infants during their first days and weeks at home as they transition into new norms, establishing a foundation for parenting in an environment
of love, joy and peace.

As a San Francisco Peninsula native, I can’t imagine living anywhere else!  While residing in the Bay Area has countless benefits, there are many challenges, including long work hours, commuting, difficulty achieving a balance between work and home, high cost of living, and being far away from family.

When our children were born, my husband and I were blessed to have our parents and siblings living nearby. Not only did we share every holiday, special event, and spontaneous outings, but we had a vast support system to rely on in the early days of parenting and raising our children. When we became grandparents, we made it a priority to be a part of our granddaughter’s upbringing with frequent trips to Arizona and visits in California. Thankfully, after granddaughter number two was born, our daughter’s family moved back home to Redwood City, and now there are three granddaughters and a big friendly dog to love and enjoy!

Many new parents don’t have the support of family that I had and have been able to provide for my daughter!  Bringing an infant home is a moment of immense joy followed by the reality of the responsibilities that come with parenthood. My role as Mama Maria Postpartum Doula is to facilitate this transition to a new normal. Establishing breast and/or bottle feeding routines, adequate rest and healing for mom, and space and time to bond as a family, are all an important part of the initial days and weeks of an infant’s life.

Growing up in an Italian family most of our traditions involved the preparation of food, and an opportunity to enjoy a meal with family and friends!  I have continued to carry on these traditions; family, faith, food, and fun have been an integral part of our home for 32 years. I enjoy cooking, walking outdoors, reading, spending time with family and friends, creating traditions, sharing recipes, traveling, and enjoying all things Disney.

Family means the world to me and includes our extended family of friends who do not have family living nearby. Over the past 25 years, I have had the honor of supporting many parents of infants by sharing my experience with the topics of breastfeeding, bottle-feeding, preparing nutritious meals, maximizing sleep for good health, schedules for baby, and walking outdoors.
